I often wonder about this.
If the SHIF, or some other emergency requires immediate action, where would you go?
Would you stay put? Would you get in your vehicle, and drive as far as it could go on a full tank of gas? (Assuming the gas tank is full that is.) Would you foot it out? And hey... What about all that ammo you been hording? How are you going to Transport that? It weighs a ton!!!
Sometimes I think I would head to the lake and stay on my boat. I could fish and hunt for food, have water, and anchor off-shore. But, then again I would be an easy target.
What are your plans for such an event?

We're getting on in years, my wife's health isn't good and I too have had 4 way bypass 2 years ago, I'm doing fine so it all depends on our health at the time it hits the fan. We do have survival supplies stored in our bug-out box and separate bug-out bags. We could live on it for about a month if we had to leave the house. We have a supply of emergeny food for home use as well. I'm a very resourceful man, I can live off the land and I can make almost anything out of next to nothing. I am also blessed with good neighbors and we have vowed to look out for eachother. Our kids are spread across Middle Tennessee and we plan to pool our resources if need be.
If it comes to an electrical suppy problem we can still survive, we have water nearby, firewood and a will to survive. As far as weapons and amunition is concerned, we have enough for personal protection and game but not to fight off an army, at least not yet anyway.
I've always been a believer in "If theres a will, there's a way"!

I'm not sure what a full tank of gas in any vehicle would afford you, unless you had a specific safe place to get to with it. And where is a safe place, given a certain scenario ? There are a shi... er, I mean, boat load of baby boomers.......so age is a factor for many people that not only are aware of today's criteria, but still believe in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, and their physical ability to stand up and fight for what they know to be right. I am still pretty active. Mamaozo had a major stroke in 1999, and although she has recovered well, she doesn't walk that well...much less could she run or even hike any distance......definitely not carrying anything more than a sidearm and a pocket of ammo. Our home was chosen specifically as a place to fend away intruders......if the need be. Leaving it in a SHTF situation would have to be a dire emergency necessity. I am too, very resourceful with limited items. If I had somewhere close to hightail to with others I could depend on, it would be my first option if we had to leave the premises. I have played a million scenarios in my head.....but I have no idea what would actually occur. I do understand this......if we are not diligent NOW, and do what we can to avoid a 'worst-case scenario'.....we have done nothing to avoid what ever comes along. Yet, still, we must plan for it......not out of paranoia, but as good Boy Scouts.

When we first moved out to where we are, I had determined that the less some of them,(the neighbors), knew about us, the better. It was just the way it was back then, local family klans, fueds, etc. Now, many have either passed or moved on, and there is really no feeling of watching out for your neighbor. It took me some time to get used to this, but my wife and I have always said, "It's you and me babe, we got each other's back". Rob

We had some awesome neighbors when we moved here 8yrs ago, an 87yr old veteran, a 95yr old highly decorated WW vet, a 69yr old ex school teacher, another jarhead with a son in the Corps, and a husband/wife into self reliance. We had a hell of a neighborhood watch team. Time went on, the older ones passed, some of the younger moved away, my closest neighbor turned into a liar/thief with OCD, and the husband/wife preppers are just 'wannabe's' with her way being the ONLY way, plus they are scared of guns and smoke lotsa pot. Our home affords us a great view of the area...on a hill, two story with the main floor being above, a dead end street with not much traffic. But we are pretty much 'loners' now. I don't see it happening soon, but things could change, and they usually do. For now, Mamaozo and I just watch out for each other.
