Gibson Dept Store was a forerunner to the days of K-mart.
Back when good old hardeware stores were the go-to place
for every nut-bolt-screw and guns and go-carts, bicycles
and washing machines, etc.
Gibson's was a GIANT of a store, in it's own right, for that day/time.
I lived in Ojosarco NM [1970] and was one of 3 white/Caucasians within
a 50 mile radius, and 110 miles to the south was Santa Fe.
Once a month I drove there for supplies, an all day sojourn !
[If not Taos, but at the time, Taos was tiny and limited on goods]
[messin' with ya....I think 30/30's were $3/box, .38's were $2/box,
.22lr's were $.59
On this particular evening, before my journey back up into the mountains,
I was in Gibson's/Santa Fe and bought me a nice new knife, a new uncommonly
known brand to us here in the USA.......a quality PUMA.
It wasn't cheap by any standard at the time, and just had 'that' balance,
that look and feel......had to have it.
But $12.99 ----it was pricey, but within budget reach. Own it-still have it !
[side note...a beautiful hippie chick, a few months later, gave me an
Egyptian rolled bead which I put on the lanyard....and it still remains there]
I hope someone can appreciate this story, it is embellished in my life, but
understandable if it don't mean squat to anyone else......jus sayin.......
As they always say [these days].....pics, or it didn't happen.....
